2024 saw us responding to 40 callouts, the highest total we’ve ever had in a year. 37 were deployed and 3 callouts stood down en route.
With over 8,000 volunteer hours from our team members. This includes 1,062 incident hours, over 4,500 hours of training and the remaining hours spent fundraising or other operational tasks to keep the team running.
Our busiest months were May, June, October and November, which were all equivalent to 2 callouts a week.
The most common injury we attended for callouts was lower leg or back injuries in 2024.
Furthest callout attended by our Search Dogs: Brecon Beacons
Did you know Search Dogs and Water-qualified team members are considered national assets and can be deployed anywhere in England & Wales.
The longest callout was 8 hours and 30 minutes.
The fastest callout was 22 minutes.
The average length of callouts was 4 hours.
7 of our callouts were in urban areas, 1 of which was to support the evacuation in Plymouth due to the unexploded WWII device.
In 2025, we aim to replace our aging Land Rover (Dart 5.1) at 32 years old, her age is beginning to show.
Having spent her entire life in operational service within Mountain Rescue England & Wales, she has had an exciting life as part of MREW, having been deployed to two unexploded WWII devices, attended a lot of Ten Tors events and clocked in many hours on callouts
Dart 5.1 will hold a special place in our hearts and is a big piece of history for MREW.
Can you help us and fundraise for your local Mountain Rescue team?
