Callout 9 – Thursday 5 March 2026

NDSART were called by Devon & Cornwall Police to search for a missing walker who had called in for help as night fell after going for a walk and lost their way in the soft ground near Steng-a-tor.

The team was deployed from the Fox and Hounds Hotel & Restaurant with team Land Rovers and the support of Devon & Cornwall 4×4 Response to transport team members to the Rattlebrook peat works, where Hill Parties continued by foot to search from Kitty Tor down to Steng-a-tor.

The missing walker was located between Kitty Tor and Steng-a-tor. A Remote Rescue Medical Technician assessed the walker and found no injuries, and was able to walk back with team members to the awaiting convoy of vehicles at the Rattlebrook peat works.

The team returned the missing walker to the Fox and Hounds, where their family was waiting.

The team was stood down at 19:27 for those not already on scene.

At the same time, our Chairman was hosting a presentation and tour for the local Air Cadets at the centre.

When out walking on Dartmoor, remember to pack a power bank with cables, a torch with spare batteries and a mini first aid kit, as well as waterproofs and extra insulated layers, whether running, walking, in summer or winter.
