Callout- 30 December 2024
The Team were called at 15:59 by South Western Ambulance Service Trust to assess and extract an injured person on Longstone Hill near Meldon Reservoir.
The initial details that had come through had reported the injured person fell on the steep banks of the hill and heard a leg snap as they fell.
Team members were deployed from Meldon Reservoir car park by foot and Land Rover to the known location, which was marked by the group’s bright clothing and lights.
Two Remote Rescue Medical technicians worked together to assess the injured individual and provide pain relief for the lower leg injury. Meanwhile, the other team members conducted welfare checks on the remaining group members and ensured everyone was warm and comfortable.
Once pain relief and a lower leg splint had been applied, further team members arrived on the scene to help with the stretcher extraction from the hillside back to the Control Vehicle located at the car park.
After arriving at the Control vehicle, the casualty was made comfortable with additional layers and shelter for the awaiting ambulance.
Team members were stood down at 18:45.
